  While working for the Blacksburg Aquatics Center as part of the town's Parks and Recreation department I was responsible for the safety and well being of all patrons that enter the pool facility, the maintenance of the pool deck area, the administration of lesson plans, and working with the public; assisting in the registration process and directing them toward appropriate activities. In addition, I participated in public service announcements for the town, which can be viewed on the town website. I also created extremely successful programs geared toward educating children and teens while also managing a group of about 15 instructors. In addition to my title of Head Swim Instructor I was also a Lifeguard and Front Desk Attendant with American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguard, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, and First Aid for the professional rescuer.   In the winter when it is too cold to sail, it is my responsibility to teach the children in the Sail Academy how to swim, be safe in and around water, and to teach the 7th grade students basic American Red Cross First Aid and CPR. In addition the children also learn basic live saving techniques in the water such as reaching assists, throwing assists, and walking assists. Assist with setting up and taking down any equipment as well as assisting with the instruction of the children on subjects such as knots, sailing, and ecology.
