After qualifying in July 1981, I worked as a general district officer where I underwent the full range of duties.Between 1984 and 1987, I worked in the City`s specialist food section, where I undertook inspections of food premises, investigated food complaints and food positing investigations.

I mentored and provided specialist advice to other officers, peer reviewed work and checked correspondence I co-ordinated joint working and responses with other internal departments and external agencies including various NSW State Departments. Show less I acted as Area Co-ordinator of a Health and Building team between November 2013 and March 2014, where my duties were similar to my current role.As Specialist EHO, I was responsible for Investigation of complaints, providing comments on development approvals, reviewing development approval comments of other EHO`s and providing advice to stakeholders on various environmental protection subjects.I was engaged in special projects and working groups with other councils, state departments and agencies to ensure a consistent enforcement approach throughout NSW to regulate key issues including hoarding and squalor, noxious weeds and regulation of grey and black water recycling.I also mentored Environmental Health colleagues and provided guidance and peer reviews of work to assist the Council in improving quality and consistency of work. I reviewed the actions of officers against practice notes and the Council`s enforcement policies and where necessary provide feedback to ensure consistency of work and provided mentoring.I co-ordinated team responses to planning applications, major event applications building applications and obstruction permits, evaluation of acoustic reports, public safety, environmental protection and sustainability.I represented the Environmental Health service at planning committees and provided a link between Environmental Health and other stakeholders including WA Departments of Environment, Health and Planning.   I Investigate and resolve complaints about various issues including air and water pollution, noise, asbestos dumping, fly tipping, public health and nuisance complaints.My investigations are often of a complex nature involving collaboration with other internal departments including Building Compliance and Construction Liaison Officers and external bodies including the State Departments of Planning, Environmental Protection (EPA) and Worksafe.I provide comments and advice on development approvals, which are often complex in redeveloping commercial land for residential use involving site remediation and acoustic mitigation measures. I participate in numerous public health programs including inspection of food premises, pools and spas and legionella control.I support and mentor EHO`s in reviewing and peer reviewing their development approval comments, letters, notices and orders to ensure consistency and I provide advice to stakeholders on various environmental health subjects including pollution control, food safety, public health and pre-planning advice.I regularly provide a responses for the City on proposed revisions for State Policies and legislation, for example land contamination and the recent changes to the Public Health Regulation with respect to legionella control.I provide draft responses for politician enquiries and media releases.
