In my role as the Host Coordinator, I worked with first-year students who were interested sharing their experiences as a Luther student with prospective high school seniors interested in attending Luther College. For academics, I focused my senior research projects on the following: studying the role of the Catholic Church and the Pope's responses to the SS policies; and the role of prophecy in the writings of the twelfth-century mystic Hildegard von Bingen.Outside of work and academics, I was a member of the Luther College Cross Country/Track and Field teams for 4 seasons. • Luther College

      Aug 2008 - May 2011

I organized all of the overnight visits that had been requested by prospective high school seniors interested in Luther College as an institution of higher education. I sent out emails, sometimes individual, and at other times, in masses, to any first-year Luther student who filled out an application at the beginning of the school year. I worked with all of the coaches in the Luther College athletic department as well, making sure that each of the prospective students that asked to do an overnight visit had the best host possible to make their stay at Luther an enjoyable one. I worked with Microsoft Word and Excel programs, and mail-merges on both systems, to prepare an information packet for the first-year host about who they were going to be hosting, where the prospective student was from, and what interests the student had. Upon the conclusion of the prospective student's visit, it was my responsibility to enter any last bits of information about the overnight visit from the first-year host into Luther's Datatel system. Show less As a student ambassador, my main job was to show prospective high school students and their families around Luther's campus, and to tell them all about what it means to be a Luther student. This included what kinds of activities the campus offers to students, what classes are like, the student-to-professor ratio, what kinds of programs Luther has to offer its students, and what student life is like at Luther. Overall, it was my responsibility to share with the prospective student's and their families what my experience at Luther had been. Show less

At the Springhill Suites, I check-in guests who have made reservations with our hotel. For those who have not, I provide them with the best rate that we have going for that night, and make sure that they know about all the amenities that our hotel has to offer. During my shift, I make sure that the laundry gets folded for housekeeping in the morning, along with maintaining a clean and comforting hotel lobby, where any guest that comes in will feel welcome. With regards to checking in our guests, I work with the MARSHA reservation system, which is the system for the Marriott chain nationwide. During the night, I run the audit reports for the previous day, and prepare the night audit report packet. I also prepare the check-out folios for any guests who will be checking out the next morning. At the end of my shift, I prepare the communication report for the front desk clerk, letting them know of any problems that may have come up during the night, and/or which guests have requested a late check-out. When members come in to pay on their account, I work with our club's accounting system to post their payments.
