      Jan 2003 - Jan 2003
Intern - Special Weapons and Tactics

While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I completed an internship with the North Carolina Justice Academy, an accredited training academy for law enforcement. I developed and disseminated the North Carolina Special Operations Directory, which is essentially a manual that served 2 purposes: provide the contact information for all law enforcement agencies throughout the State and educate them about the resources available to them in other departments throughout the State. The need for such a manual became clear following 9/11, which revealed that neighboring agencies were completely unaware of the resources available to them in the event of a catastrophe and, further, had no quick reference for contacting other agencies. Upon publishing the Directory, it was distributed to every law enforcement agency in the State. I then researched and authored an article entitled "Target of Change: Obstacles Female Officers Face on Patrol," which was published in a nationally accredited law enforcement magazine publication. The research that I performed for that article was subsequently used in a grant proposal to implement a specialized training program for female law enforcement officers at the North Carolina Justice Academy. I also studied and trained alongside criminal justice personnel in Special Weapons and Tactics, successfully completing classes for Rapid Deployment, Crime Scene Investigation, Anti-Terrorism, Fundamentals of the Investigative Process, and Child Death Investigation. • North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation - Northern Piedmont District

      Jan 2004 - Jan 2004
Intern - Field Operation and Special Investigation Unit

While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I worked as an intern with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. During the internship, I worked directly with SBI field agents, as well as federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies as they processed crime scenes, conducted crime-related polygraph examinations, and trained agents in interview and interrogation techniques. I also assisted the clandestine laboratory response team in processing methamphetamine labs involving noxious gases, hazardous waste, and potential explosion hazards. Show less
