      I took part in a one week experience in La Palma, Islas Canarias. I visited the Galielo National Telescope and stood for half a night of observation and data gathering along with the techincians. I had the opportunity to see the whole island and to deal with the geological aspects of it. One month later the group prepared an exposition about the experience that took place at school.

      Nuclear Engineer Intern

      I worked in Axpo's Nuclear Physics Department under the supervision of Dionysios Chionis and the help of Giorgio Malavasi. My job was to study the behaviour of the Kernkfraftwerk Leibastdt (KKL) BWR nuclear reactor starting from several different steady-state conditions when a specific Anticipated Operational Occurrance (AOO) happens. From the results of the simulations, through a reverse logic, it is possible to calculate the thermal operating limit (OLMCPR) for each fuel assembly type of the reactor. This is a hard limit for the reactor's operation, defined in such a way that even if the AOO actually occurred, the nuclear reactor's core would not be damaged (according to a probabilistic model).This procedure is usually done every year when completing the Reload Licensing Submittal (RLS) for a new fuel cycle in KKL. My job extended the usual analysis to many more starting operating conditions. Because of that, I created a new script procedure to launch SIMULATE5 and SIMULATE-3K simulations, using Bash scripting.
