      Nov 2013 - Jun 2014
      Junior Researcher

Galina Petrova, the professor of Latin language, granted me an opportunity to perform research on the etymology of the medical term across European languages.I analyzed medical terms across English, French, Italian, Romanian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian languages to formulate the basic principles of their formation and assess similarities quantitatively. This project was my first trial of formal statistical analysis. Yet not medical, it was my first research experience in medical school. It granted me, a med school freshman, an opportunity to get acquainted with academic research principles and face the challenges of presenting results at the international conference CERLIS 2014, Bergamo, Italy. This project prepared me for the next step, research in the field of medicine. Show less

I assisted Professor Olga Smirnova in writing a textbook “Physiology of the endocrine system”. Professor Smirnova engaged me for the illustrative skills I demonstrated during my report on steroidal hormone effects on muscular reparation during my 2nd year in medical school.I was a co-author of the “Receptor signaling pathways” chapter, illustrations, clinical correlates, and vignettes. Those days I got recently acquainted with American medical textbooks and was eager to make a textbook in Russian equally clear, concise, clinically oriented, and well-designed. I hope this textbook would help the next generations of medical students to learn the physiology endocrine system easily and painlessly. Show less I investigated the role of the arachidonic acid derivates during the retinal remodeling of a globally ischemic murine eye under the mentorship of Ekaterina Rzhavina. That was my first (and thrilling) experience with animal model research. It was my duty to perform microscopic analysis of the retinal specimens, assess retinal cellularity with specialized software. The results of this research were awarded at a scientific conference in St. Petersburg, Russia, and established a base for my intermediate qualification project at medical school. This invaluable experience defined my determinacy to pursue a scientific career within clinical research. Show less

      Tutor of Medicine

I find the education of medical students an inseparable part of my work as a physician. I try to use the knowledge acquired during my education and USMLE preparation for the advance of future physicians, providing them with up-to-date, concise, and easy-to-understand explanations of complicated medical subjects using my personal educative system.I provide regular lessons on clinical and pre-clinical disciplines (internal medicine, pharmacology, pathology, microbiology/immunology, physiology, and biochemistry) for groups of medical students since my 4th year at medical school in person or via Skype/Zoom.In my opinion, the experience of explaining complex medical entities to students, considering their perception, and understanding, helps me to educate patients better about their conditions. I am passionate about medicine and teaching also keeps my Basic Science and Clinical knowledge current. I find it particularly useful for the effective management of complicated and complex patients Show less

I assisted Natural Science devision leader Natalia Leontovich during the "Vernadsky national contest of school science projects". I coordinated the Natural Science section, subdivision of medicine. It was my duty to review projects submitted and choose projects, eligible for the final panel review. I also managed the subdivision of medicine during the final competition, assuring the optimal experience for the participants. This experience utilized my leadership, mentorship, and interpersonal skills. Interaction with high school students was challenging, but it applied my skills of patient-centered interaction in a new setting. The skills assisted me in providing feedback tactfully yet pointing out project weaknesses and conserving the student's commitment to science. It was a great pleasure to participate in this experience. I believe that such activities introduce the fascination of science to school students and are a great asset to their further professional careers. Show less

I worked under the supervision of attending physicians and Dr. Kamalov, and covered the urological department cover in 10 hours shifts.I performed preoperative evaluation, focused interview and physical exam, postoperative care, bladder catheterization and fulfilled medical records. I assisted during cystoscopic interventions, varicocele removal, prostatectomies, nephrostomies, and ureteral stentings. As a part of my residence, I performed nightshift in the emergency hospital where I was involved in the treatment of emergent urological conditions, like pyelonephritis and acute urinary retention. I acted accordingly to EAU and AUA guidelines during my urological residency.I communicated with patients and colleagues correctly and respectively and was capable of maintaining effective communication. Show less Dr. Vadim Mamedov granted me an opportunity to contribute to his research of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) as a potential marker of prostate cancer. It was my duty to analyze the patient data and biochemical studies of prostate specimens, assess diagnostic parameters of ACE-based tests, and conduct the ROC Analysis. I was involved in the preparation of the article draft and figures as well. Dr. Mamedov paid special attention to explaining the principles of study designs, advanced statistics, and ethical aspects of clinical research. It was an important experience, which honed my skills in statistical analysis and study planning. Dr. Mamedov's mentorship provided me with invaluable research competencies and prepared me to accept the responsibilities of a senior researcher in subsequent projects. Show less I investigated the association between reactive oxygen species production and male infertility under the guidance of Dr. Elena Proskurnina.I conducted seminal fluid analysis, centrigugation and assessed the reactive oxygen species production via quantitative chemiluminescence of luminol in seminal plasma, spermatozoa, and seminal leukocytes. It was also my responsibility to present resultsand prepare drafts for publications. Dr. Elena Proskurnina provided a genuine mentorship and avidly shared her experience of experimental work and academic writing. This research provided me a "hands-on" experience of lab work, literature review, and article writing. The data extracted during this investigation formed a base for my qualification research project and my first peer-reviewed publication. My affinity for clinical research was greatly fostered by this experience Show less I presented a public lecture on immunology for high school students, preparing to enroll medical schools (https://vk.cc/c4bTUI) as a part of the Lomonosov MSU Faculty of Medicine "Buduschiy doctor" educational project.I based my lecture on relevant materials, I had previously used during USMLE Step 1 preparation. The presentation was conducted in an entertaining way to make it interesting and clear for the target audience. I believe that is the most appropriate way to deliver complex material, as it gets listeners Volunteer Experiencemore involved and interested in the topic.I consider that this experience will assist me in ongoing work with students during residency and further medical practice. In cooperation with other enthusiastic residents, I coordinate an educational community for medical students and residents(https://vk.com/medica_mente, which accounts for 37500 users). This project is determined to the improvement of their knowledge and awareness about the best evidence-based practices.I publish peer-reviewed articles based on the latest American and European guidelines and trials there. I comprise up-to-date medical principles into comprehensive and organized visual materials as well (i.e. https://vk.cc/c4bR1z). Though traditional Russian medical textbooks lack visual components, in my view, a visual approach greatly improves understanding and, subsequently, patient care. And student feedback confirms this approach furthermore. Moreover, creating these materials allows me to investigate uncommon or complex medical conditions even better. I believe my contribution to this project will improve patient care across the former soviet area in near future. Show less
