I was a part of the Powertrain Design Department, and worked on developing a tool to determine EDU (Electric Drive Unit) parameters for Electrical Vehicles. The tool was prepared in MS Excel using VBA (Visual Basic for Applications). The tool required basic car performance related information, based on which it could recommend the user factors like using Single/Dual-speed gearbox, predict the range of EV, total system torque requirement, etc. The stakeholders were the future users of the tool - Vehicle Engineers and Technical Specialists. In order to make sure the tool is convenient for them, we periodically took team meetings where I presented to them the underlying functions of the tool and demonstrated the progress of the tool and asked for their feedback/suggestions. With discussion with team members we incorporated the feedback into the tool. We built this in-house product that replaced heavy and time consuming calculations that required complicated data, with a simple tool that gives results within minutes with acceptable accuracy.
