Upon the completion of my apprenticeship I was tasked with the programming, setting and the operation of CNC machinery to manufacture the components for use in the automatic transitions for various Volvo earth moving equipment. This would vary from components in full production, small batches of archived components for spares requirements and new product introduction. The types of CNC machinery I would operate are, Mazak Lathes and machining centers, Heller machining centers, Sweedturn lathes, Bridgeport machining centers, Liebherr hobbing machinery. The machine operating systems I would use on a regular basis were Fanuc, Siemens, Uni Pro and Mazatrol. I would also be involved in project work with the assigned Manufacturing Engineer (ME) and Industrial Engineer (IE) to assist in creating visual aids/ work instructions, “Make vs. Buy” studies and design of the work cell layout. In conjunction with the programming of the CNC machinery, I was also tasked with the programming of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM’s) using MCOSMOS, Statistical Process Control (SPC) data gathering, 5s for the areas I worked in and stock level control of the machine tools through SAP. Sept 2007 - Sept 2014

In order to better my engineering skills and knowledge I obtained a Manufacturing Engineering role within the Civil Large Engine (CLE) Production and Test Facility (PTF) of Rolls-Royce in Derby. My role was to support the assembly, test and shipment processes of the Trent 700, Trent 900, Trent 1000 and Trent XWB. As an ME working within the PTF I would be tasked with closing of all build line issues raised, the creation of technical instructions to support the assembly process, the validation of new and modified tooling, create and own PFMEA documents, create/ modify training packages, work with design engineers to implement modifications highlight opportunities for continuous improvement, carry out “7 Step” investigations and work with Boeing and Airbus representatives. Show less To support the growth in production, Rolls-Royce PLC created an automated cell within the forge of the Inchinnan facility to manufacture compressor blades for Trent 1000, Trent 900 and Trent XWB. The position of a robotic programmer was created and was tasked to set, edit and maintain the various Fanuc robots as well as managing the cell work load in conjunction with the production schedule. Before I could begin this role, I had to undergo training at the Fanuc Robotics centre UK located in Coventry to become qualified to program the robots. As the automated cell was operating with a reduced head count I had additional responsibilities which included, for all the work cell calibration, tooling inventory, and SAP management of work flowing through the cell, the work cell 5s standards and head count holiday planning. Show less As a Setter/ Operator working for Rolls-Royce PLC my various daily tasks was to program, set and operate CNC machinery and Power Presses to manufacture compressor blades for gas turbines such as the Trent 1000, Trent 900, Trent 700, Industrial Trent 800, RB211 E4, V2500 and Tay. This was to support of new build, development, experimental and the repair & overhaul business. Other responsibilities within the work cells included the processing of components pre and post forging operations (shot blast, heat treatment/ stress relieving processes and acid bath), keeping the work cell within 5S standards and recording the status of component batches through SAP. The CNC machinery and Power Presses I used to manufacture the compressor blades were Mazak machining centers, Magerle grinders and Weingarten screw presses. In addition to the manufacturing of the compressor blades I was given the role of calibration champion for the section. The duties included booking gauges and tooling in for calibration, organizing repair of damaged gauges and tooling and sourcing replacement tooling and gauges. The section had targets to meet or better for calibration which I was responsible for. Show less
