      Probation Officer

I managed high risk offenders in the community whilst they served Orders made by the Courts or completed the remainder of their prison sentence whilst on licence in the community. My role involved:Making informed and balanced decisions on the risk of serious harm an offender poses. Liaising with the other agencies and gathering the relevant information to aid my assessment. Working in partnership with agencies and sharing information to promote and ensure public protection Demonstrating high levels of responsibility in all aspects of my role including managing volatile situations that require a sensitive but appropriate response.Preparing and presenting Pre-sentence reports for Court officials, communicating in a confident and persuasive manner that impacts upon sentencing decisions. Delivering specialist training programmes designed to challenge offenders' attitudes and behaviour in order to reduce further offending; Undertaking meticulous record keeping and reviewing processes.Building relationships with other agencies based on mutual trust, respecting and working within ethical codes of conduct.Using my natural coaching skills to raise awareness of the impact of offender crimes and insight change in the individual.Reconciling information over several years and from many different sources to compile a highly comprehensive Parole report. These reports must be impartial, factually accurate and reflect appropriate moral and ethical judgements whilst accounting for risk.Being held accountable for the content of Parole reports when attending hearings with professionals. I am able to uphold the content of the reports by answering any line of questioning in a coherent and confident manner.I have regularly presented a cognitive behavioural programme ‘Thinking Skills’ to groups of 12 individuals. This requires an awareness of learning styles and I have gained skills in adapting my delivery to account for the diversity of the group. Show less
