    • Politecnico di Torino

      Nov 2017 - Sept 2021

PhD researcher in the project EXPERTISE (models, EXperiments and high PERformance computing for Turbine mechnanical Integrity and Structural dynamics in Europe).- Designed and manufactured dynamic testing-ready a bolted beam assembly and a turbine disk system. Additionally, conceived multiple experimental configurations to enhance testing flexibility.- Created and fine-tuned finite element (FE) models for the test-rigs, with structured meshing approach achieving high-quality parameters.- Analysed static stresses and fatigue life using solid mechanics principles, validating models through Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and extending the validations to real systems.- Refined FE models through global and local updating methods, ensuring accurate representation of actual rigs for precise design alignment.- Conducted modal analyses, generating Campbell diagrams and iteratively optimizing designs to prevent dangerous resonances, prioritizing design safety and integrity.- Defined and developed test-plans for experimental measurements of vibrations using various DAQs and sensors including strain gauges, accelerometers, laser doppler vibrometry (LDV), proximity probes, impact hammers and electromagnetic shakers.- Developed an approach of integrating experimental and numerical strategies for identifying blade-disk coupling in large joint systems. This new method involved extensive Finite Element (FE) models, reduced ordered models, and custom MATLAB codes, exemplifying advanced analytical capabilities.- Innovated a correlation-based approach for Frequency Response Function (FRF) representations, enabling bad sensor filtering from measurement sets. This technique ensures a posteriori problematic Degree-of-Freedom (DoF) elimination. Mostrar menos

      • Associate Researcher

        Nov 2020 - Sept 2021
      • Early Stage Researcher (Marie-Curie Sklodowska Actions EU Horizon 2020)

        Nov 2017 - Oct 2020
    • Imperial College London

      Jul 2018 - Jan 2018
Visiting Researcher (NDCSI - Summer School)

Participated in this research oriented summer school to develop an open-access test-case on continuation methods and titled 'Continuation methods for friction non-linearity in bladed-disks'. I coded a non-linear frictional element based on Jenkin's method. The element would calculate non-linear force in time-domain from spectral displacements and recalculate the non-linear force in frequency domain by inverse Fourier transformation. The work was done within multi-skilled and multi-cultural teams. The findings were disseminated at International Modal Analysis Conference (IMAC 2019) in Florida, USA and later published as a book chapter. Mostrar menos

    • Technical University of Munich

      Feb 2019 - Jan 2019
      Visiting Researcher

During this visit of my research, high-tech sensors and advanced DAQ at the Chair of Applied Mechanics of TU Munich were used to test the methodologies developed there, namely, System Equivalent Model Mixing – SEMM. The test-rig of Politecnico di Torino was the main test-case. It became possible for the first time to identify the blade-disk joint and to validate it by predicting of the response of the assembly. The collaboration between the two universities led to interesting and fruitful results which became the basis for the onward research. Mostrar menos

    • IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center

      Jan 2020 - Feb 2020
      Visiting Researcher

In this focused workshop at IT4Innovation for a joint research in the EXPERTISE project, an approach was developed to speed-up the frequency response of mechanical systems. The results of this often encountered computation in structural dynamics showed a significant computational saving. The supercomputer Salomon at IT4I was used for exhaustive study of FRF computations. Extensions to the method for optimal CPU time savings produced speed-ups of ~14.
