    • Voices from Inside

      Mar 2014 - Jan 2018

Voices from Inside (VFI) offers writing groups, performance and public speaking opportunities, and leadership training for women in Western Massachusetts who are or were incarcerated. Since 1999, VFI has helped women find their voices, connect with community and become leaders. Please visit voicesfrominside.org to learn more and get involved. I read and wrote weekly with women in the Western Massachusetts Regional Women's Correctional Center (WCC) in Chicopee, MA. I also formatted chapbooks of the women's work at the end of workshop cycles. In the summer of 2014, I was part of a small team that created a new workshop, Power of Stories, that focuses more on prose than poetry. This led to a redesign of the workshop model, including the creation of materials that illuminated the text for those whose education has been interrupted as well as shifting time spent together on reading and discussing works and encouraging the participants to spend time writing throughout the week.
