  Product Engineer

  As a product engineer I had just completed a month-long engineering training where I ranked 3rd in a class of 27 students from all over the world. My position was with the sub-company Smith Bits and I worked mainly with bit tracking and the documentation of dull bits from the field. I also have experience in the field with salesmen talking to both company men and directional drillers about bit performance and needs.Due to the steep drop in oil prices that started in November 2014, Schlumberger made the decision to cut head count in North America.   As a Staff Mechanical Engineer I continued as the lead of R&D sample-to-answer consumable manufacturing for the newest sample-to-answer system. As of December 2019 the program was successfully design-transferred to manufacturing. My responsibilities for design and design transfer of this most recent product included consumable manufacturing fixture design, verification and validation including supporting documentation such as the Design History File, Manufacturing Instructions, and Process Flow Diagrams as required by internal process and/or submission to the FDA. Also as Staff Mechanical Engineer I took ownership of the mechanical reliability program for new products which will include both sample-to-answer and flow cytometry systems. Show less I was Mechanical Engineer for the Research and Development department at Luminex Corporation for three years and was promoted to Staff Mechanical Engineer in April 2018. My position was split between two different R&D tasks.I was the fluidic lead the consumable portion of an In-Vitro diagnostics project which was completed in December 2016. It required both fluid mechanics work as well as system integration and mechanical calibration of the instrument which actuated the consumable. Many of our test systems ran on LabVIEW-based systems integrating National Instruments software with both internally developed and externally procured hardware.Was also the lead of R&D consumable manufacturing up to and continuing after my promotion. The scope of this was for another consumable product for both fixture development, SOPs and documentation. The R&D consumable manufacturing line supplies all internal consumable needs for chemistry, integration and mechanical calibration needs. I would split my time between formulation and execution of design of experiments and supporting both systems R&D and systems integration departments. Show less

It has been a way for me to make non-technical connections and allowed for a fabulous social outlet during the COVID pandemic. Through UBAM I have furthered my leadership skills, being a team leader of a team ranging from 4-10 independent consultants.
