A medical physics department may be based in a hospital, a university, or both. The lecture material in the M.Sc. Physical Sciences in Medicine is delivered by a strong team of Hospital and University based professionals, providing a concise and thorough grounding in the academic components necessary for the Medical Physicist. In parallel with the taught components, the students of the M.Sc. also undertake a research dissertation.The successful completion of all three required sections (Core Module, Specialisation Track and Dissertation) will result in the awarding of MSc (Physical Sciences in Medicine).       From March 2015 until the January 2018 I worked as a Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist - Senior in the Medical Physics Department at the Townsville Cancer Centre. Some of my daily duties include:Providing a comprehensive physics service to a busy radiotherapy centre, with 5 linacs (5 Elekta), superficial x-ray treatment unit and a HDR brachytherapy system.On-schedule commissioning of the superficial x-ray treatment unit, Monaco TPS CCC and photon MC beam models and the Octavius 4D treatment verification system.Appointed Radiation Safety Office (RSO) in absence of designated RSO to provide effective RSO duties to the cancer centre.Phase 1 Physics course co-ordinator for medical staff in Queensland and New Zealand undertaking the Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiology examinations. Some of my daily duties include:Management of the Departmental HDR Brachytherpy Program,- Acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment - Acceptance testing and commissioning of planning system upgrades (Oncentra).- The development and maintenance of QA programs.- Development and delivery of annual departmental HDR brachytherapy emergency training.- Patient specific treatment plan checking. (Gynaecological HDR brachytherapy)- HDR brachytherapy treatment supervision.- Performing regular Ir192 source calibrations.- Supervision of daily and monthly QA when required.Radiation Oncology Physics Phase 1 Lecture Course Co-ordinator- Coordinating the delivery of approximately 40 lectures to radiation oncology registrars in the Townsville and Queensland region.- Delivery of over 10 formal lectures and 2 to 3 tutorials per year to first and second year radiation oncology registrars.Management of the Monaco Treatment Planning System- Acceptance testing and commissioning of planning system upgrades.- Providing physics support to all professional groups.Management of the Acceptance and Commissioning of 2 Elekta Infiinty Linear Accelerators- Acceptance testing of equipment.- Monaco IMRT/VMAT/3D beam data acquisition. - Monaco Electron Monte Carlo beam data acquisition- Machine commissioned to be VMAT and SABR readyOther Duties:- Development and implementation of new techniques to improve the safety and accuracy of radiation delivery. - Development and maintenance of quality assurance programs.- Performing SBRT/IMRT patient specific quality assurance, regular quality assurance on linear accelerators, a superficial X-ray unit, a CT Simulator, a CT unit, CBCT, HDR Brachytherapy unit and on the XIO and Monaco TPSs.- Performing in-vivo measurements to verify dose delivery to patients.
