Led the everyday operations of the finance team (12 reports) and managed all aspects of the financial integration from Symbian to Nokia following the acquisition of Symbian.• Prepared monthly consolidated results and KPIs for 7 international group companies and reviewed with the CEO and CFO (annual turnover £190M, global headcount of 1,700 employees).• Managed the company treasury function to ensure efficient servicing of cash flow requirements whilst maximising interest income on cash balances. • Integrated the Symbian financial systems, processes and controls into Nokia. Assessed tax and financial reporting implications, provided finance support for asset transfer agreements and the sale of intellectual property. Managed the transfer of ledger balances from Oracle to SAP and the transfer of responsibility for every day finance activities to Nokia personnel.• Implemented controls and procedures to ensure that the acquired organisation was SOX compliant within 3 months of the acquisition.• Designed and implemented steps to accelerate the Symbian management reporting process to synchronise with Nokia month end timetable.• Implemented a dual reporting system whereby monthly results were reported both under Symbian accounting policies prepared using UK GAAP and Nokia accounting policies prepared using IFRS. • Produced consolidated annual budgets for 7 international group companies.• Coordinated the audit of the Symbian group companies resident in the UK and acted as primary point of contact for auditors. Provided expert advice and support to the head of unit on various initiatives and ensured any decisions taken were financially sound. Managed FP&A and all other finance activities of the business unit which encompassed the software, chipsets, hardware and electro-mechanics technology areas. Analysed monthly results, tracked key performance indicators (KPIs) and presented results to senior management. Managed the monthly reforecasting and bi-annual budgeting processes, monitored SOX compliance and approved significant items of expenditure. Directly managed an international team of 3 accountants and had additional indirect reporting lines from other matrix functions.• Facilitated annual savings of €40M having partnered with project leads to produce detailed financial models and breakeven and scenario analyses for major restructuring projects including the closure of satellite offices and the merger of three business units into a single streamlined organisation.• Created a control environment which instilled a sense of financial responsibility into all employees in the newly created business unit. This resulted in efficient financial control over an annual operational expenditure of €170M and an estimated reduction in non-essential expenditure of €2M.• Delivered subcontracting savings of €8M at the request of senior executives to maintain short term profit margins.• Analysed proposed investment plans and presented cost to benefit analysis to senior executives which gave a clear indication of whether or not to invest in certain new technologies and resulted in reduced expenditure on speculative R&D projects by tens of millions of euros over a timescale of 2-5 years. Managed an international team of 5 accountants.• Coordinated R&D tax credit claims for 2008 and 2009 for Symbian Software Limited which secured tax savings of £5M.• Produced a two year operational forecast to allow senior executives to understand the key investments in technology and the associated benefits to the organisation. • Coordinated the process to obtain early agreement from HMRC on the Symbian UK tax position following cessation of trade and sale of intellectual property.
