  Code quality is defined as an aspect of software quality which “can be determined by just looking at the source code”. This means it can be determined without any form of testing or checking against specifications. Grading the quality of small programs is challenging and subjective due to its manual nature and the lack of consistent quality metrics. In contrast, code correctness is objective and quite manageable for large classes with the help of grading tools. Thus, code quality is sometimes evaluated by focusing only on superficial features such as formatting and comments. This project will explore different code quality metrics and tools to measure them. We will apply them to authentic student submissions in order to identify quantitative and qualitative ways to measure quality of small programmes. Currently, our 'CPP Analyser' is capable to detect the following rules very well:Refactor Rule 1: Simplify Boolean ExpressionRefactor Rule 2: Simplify Boolean ReturnRefactor Rule 3: Collapsible Nested if StatementRefactor Rule 8: Empty if StatementRefactor Rule 9: Dead CodeHere are some rules which have not been finished yet due to time constraints : Refactor Rule 4: Consolidate Conditional ExpressionsRefactor Rule 5: Redundant Conditional CheckRefactor Rule 6: No Use of ElseRefactor Rule 7: Duplicate if-else BodyFortunately, Professor Cruz and her research students will continue on our project to implement the rest refactor rules.   - Working on v9a architecture cores (A710, A720) - Primarily get involved in implementing A710 core instructions for the ISS (Instruction Set Simulator) with VLAB Processor Modeling Team. - Improve the speed of 14 PowerPC and ARM architecture core simulator decoders by experimenting and utilizing new code and data structures.- Optimized decoders generated by auto-generation scripts can provide up to 66.5% speed improvement if JIT cache and decoder cache are turned off.- New decoders are able to decode multiple instruction sets in one core (2000+ instructions, 66000+ lines of code) with the ability of handling decode exclusions.
