  I sent my best sales pitch through the mail of why I should be hired for this position directly to the HR Director in Miami Beach. Based on my near-native fluency in the Spanish language, coupled with my knowledge of various genres of Latin Music (i.e. salsa, merengue, bachata, pachanga, rumba, vallenato, cumbia, cha-cha, mambo, guaracha, bolero, etc.), I landed the position! Under the direction of the Director of Sales & Special Marketing, I performed special projects, and learned so much about the role of promotion in the Entertainment industry, as well as the importance of music distribution systems. I moved to Chicago after my graduation.I had numerous responsibilities, which included maintaining our daily press clippings for the Miami Herald, El Nuevo Herald (Spanish language edition of the Miami Herald), and the Sun Sentinel.   I am so honored to have spent 16 years mentoring men and women of all ages - ranging in age from middle school kids - to adults in their 60s. I mentored while living in Detroit, Minneapolis,Chicago, Miami, and while receiving my undergraduate degree in Shreveport, Louisiana. My personal mentoring philosophy included the following precepts:-Courage: it is essential that we face life's challenges and adversities, and not let fear hold us back.-Confidence: it is crucial that we believe in ourselves, and our abilities.-Collaboration: it is important that we work well with others, leverage each other's strengths, and celebrate each other's successes.-Culture: we live in a multicultural world, and we must appreciate and embrace diverse backgrounds and cultures.-College Preparation: I worked with students to assess their aptitude, interests, abilities, and areas of growth and development.   I was a member of the Membership Committee in 2012/13 - a national standing committee for the Northwestern Alumni Association, which represents 220,000 living alumni around the world.Prior University Service: *VP of Membership-NU Alumni Club of Detroit, 2011-13The NU Alumni Club of Detroit is a local connection to Northwestern University for 3,800 alumni living in Southeast Michigan. It is the local umbrella club that encompasses all schools, colleges, and programs at Northwestern. Alumni graduation years range from the 1950s to 2013. As former VP of Membership, I was responsible for recruiting new members, welcoming new graduates to the area, engaging and energizing current members, and recruiting new members to serve on our board of directors/club leadership. In this role, I also went a step above and served as a mentor to Northwestern freshman from the Metro Detroit area, who needed guidance, support or help adjusting to college life - and in particular, the demanding, competitive, and rigorous environment at Northwestern. I occasionally traveled to Louisiana to guest lecture in the LSU-S College of Business, and was also under contract (hired) to serve as a keynote speaker for overall university special events for students, faculty/staff and community members. Life truly does come full circle - gotta love it!
