      My very proud first job was at DMB&B as a conceptual Art Director delivering innovative campaign solutions in all medias. Working in a creative team we would work closely with the CD and the accounts team to determine the creative brief and route to market for all our clients products and services. My proudest moment came when winning a TV advertising award in my first year as an Art Director, less than 12 months after working part time in a butchers to make ends meet.Other work we created was TTL campaigns for Sensodyne, Pearl Drops Smokers Mouthrinse, Pearl Drops Whitening Toothpaste, Arid Deodorant, Gaviscon, Piriton, Durex.Jon Williams was our CD and if he ever reads this, John, thank you for the belief and the mentoring you gave us.       I still remember the pivotal moment in the interview when Andy Bull the CD posed the question... "You have great ATL and TTL experience, but we are a BTL agency and you have no experience in this" My reply was... "The only reason you don't see an award winning BTL campaign in our portfolio is because no one has given us the brief yet".Andy later confirmed we got the job and on the answers we gave. During my time at MBO I worked on fully integrated campaigns and direct for M&S, Sky +, Slendertone, Iveco Ford, East Coast Railways and won 3 awards for direct marketing. This role was the key role that helped develop myself as a fully integrated Art Director. Show less

      Tired of looking for non existant full time roles after 9.11, I remember the words of my old CD reciting freelance nirvana and my landlord reciting contractual obligations in my ear. So, I made it my mission to get in front of as many CD's and art buyers as possible and ended up supplying freelance Art Direction and concepts for the launch of the new American Express Blue card for TTL as well as supporting the ongoing Amex account in BTL.

      In the summer of 2002 I was asked to meet with the CD at Draft FCB in Oxford. On arrival, I asked for directions to the creative department. I was told: “Go through there, next to the outside swimming pool and BBQ terrace, but don't go as far as the duck pond." They had me at swimming pool.While at Draft FCB I worked as a solo Art Director who partnered up with other copywriters to deliver innovative creative solutions for our clients. Working closely with the CD and the accounts teams, I was responsible for managing multiple projects and directing art resources and internal creative staff directing TTL/Digital/Direct campaigns for The BBC, Twinings Teas, Birmingham Midshires, BBC Gardners World, Financial Times.       My first taste of being a CD was at a time I was in a Creative Director Team at PHWT and I relished it. Fast, constant, brief after brief, deadline after deadline. That experience showed me I had what it takes to run a creative department and would later give me the confidence to set up my own communications agency, Truth Marketing. Together we successfully led accounts for Subaru, Continental Tyres, Ford, and Calor Gas, improving ROI, brand awareness, after-sales support and delivering product launches. It was also very rewarding to see how our daily mentoring of more junior creatives helped improve their work. Another area I enjoyed was the client communication and have always felt very at home in this environment. The human element inspires me to add value and direction at every corner. Show less

      Through collaborative projects with NP&A London and working for a number of top UK clients such as Lloyds Bank, Doritos, Sky TV, Volvo, Old El Paso and Gigantic.com, I hit on an opportunity to work for a Russian client.During this time I developed Russian brands, produced integrated campaigns and built online businesses for Russian consumers as well as transform Russian companies into brand-fit, communications-ready propositions for western markets. A few years ago I was approached by the UK Government to expand Truth's services to Colombia. Working with UKTI, I re-branded Truth Marketing for the global market and learnt salsa and bachata to prepare for market entry. Through teaming up with partner agency, Concepto, and appointing a country manager, I won pitches for Audi, Mercedes, Cafe + and the Royal Navy. Show less
