Findings demonstrate the significance of an ethnic, national, and African consciousness underpinning their views on citizenship, to depict the vast criteria on being Ghanaian that stretches from the local to the African diaspora. This was also grounded by the principles of indigeneity, sourcing who were you from and where you are from, in continuity of their pre-colonial history, as well as how ethnic identities were being sustained as well as evolving in their contemporary sense of nationhood. Additionally, teachers were willing to accept the Government's neoliberal terms for fostering self-sufficiency and to break the mindset of aid from the West, in order to re-imagine a different trajectory on their own Ghanaian terms, that included re-claiming the meaning of their (Black) African identities.
