      Doctoral research project on the anti-cancer effect of Adriamycin (doxorubicin)-DNA adducts. -showed the effectiveness of Adriamcyin in combination with formaldehyde-releasing prodrugs-proved the clinical relevance of drug-DNA adducts as a mechanism of action of Adriamycin-developed a new ultrasensitive method for detection of Adriamcyin-DNA adducts at clinically-relevant levels never achieved before.

      Investigated the potential of umbilical cord blood-derived endothelial progenitor cells for tissue engineering.• Assessed the potential of stem cells from umbilical cord blood for repairing damaged blood vessels.• Optimised cryopreservation of human umbilical cord blood for endothelial colony-forming cells.• Correlated endothelial progenitor cells from cord blood and correlated them with obstetric factors such as multiple births, sex of baby, type of birth. • Administered a UK-wide research resource providing human placental tissues such as cord blood, placenta and umbilical cord to 25 research groups across the UK.• Increased client base by 300% in 3 years • Supervised a team of technicians and research students working on human umbilical tissues.
