    • Saline County, KS, Adult Detention Center

      Dec 2009 - Feb 2010
      Research Intern

During my time at Central Christian College of Kansas, I took advantage of their excellent "criminal justice department" and procured as many courses under Ron Hagen (http://www.centralchristian.edu/faculty/fac/ron.hagen/index.html) (www.linkedin.com/pub/ron-hagen/20/91a/2a9/) as I could. One course, called "Corrections," was an internship at a local Kansas jailhouse. I was assigned to Saline County. My time there was spent:Learning all of the aspects of a county jailhouse.Observing and assisting in the booking process.Interacting with and assisting the guards. Interacting with the inmates in a professional manner.Cell inspections: I was taught what to examine in the confined areas. Carrying out assigned tasks from the guards; I was being at a post for a full shift, monitoring the control room for a shift.I wrote a research paper paper based on what I learned and my philosophy of the prison system at the end of the term. • Montana Mike's Steakhouse

      Jan 2010 - May 2014
      Waiter

My first W2 job was as a host and "busboy" with a different company at the age of sixteen. The restaurant was a steakhouse in Gardner, KS, called "Whiskey Creek." I moved to McPherson to pursue college opportunities (see education section) where I applied to a steakhouse there in town. My original position was in the banquet department - this particular Montana Mike's cooperates with a Best Western Hotel. My duties as a banquet staff were as follows:Specific room preparations to the subjective constraints, thus arranging a wide number of chairs, tables, stages, and the like. Arranging place settings for each subjective event - a wide array of napkin folds varied. Preparing large quantities of plates and then delivering them to each member of the party. Individual attention to each member of a large party, the biggest of groups were in the low 300's. Cleanup and reorganization processes. After spending 3 months of strictly working banquet events, I asked to also work at the typical restaurant. Permission was granted. I learned the trade there and worked both extensions of the business for the last two months I spent in McPherson. Upon my arrival to Lawrence, I did not go right away to Montana Mike's. I took some time to get settled into the University environment. June, 2011, is when I made the formal transfer to the Lawrence, KS, branch of Montana Mike's.My duties and skills include:Sales: Capacity to upsell Explicit demonstration of responsible hospitalityThe keen ability to multitaskMoney management knowledgeExtraordinary attention to detail and anticipatory service - they ask for X, I give them 2X Possess a clean and solid work ethicThe flexibility to work collaboratively with othersA high volume of product knowledge and application Show less
