  The opportunity to start my teaching journey at Saltash community school has been very exciting. I enjoyed immersing myself within the school culture and getting to know both students and staff. Through observation and reflection on other teachers practice as well as my own I now understand the teachers role in contributing to pupil progress. I have seen the improvement of my impact on students in my class as I have developed my questioning skills. I had the opportunity to get involved with extra curricular activities and it was very rewarding helping out at the cookery club. I particularly enjoyed teaching students cooking techniques and life skills that they might not learn at home. While working with my tutor group it was very fulfilling to be a part of the accelerated reader scheme. I really look forward to any future opportunities to be involved with this program. I am grateful to all of the staff and students at Saltash for welcoming me into their school and I now have a better understanding and appreciation of the importance of a school culture. This was a theme that came up regularly within the weekly CPD meetings I attended. Here I developed my understanding of the role of the teacher in the classroom and as a result I have increased my confidence with using direct instruction techniques and cold calling. Show less
