I was able to help a high school student with learning study skills. I was also able to guide him though lessons that he did not understand. This was very rewarding to see his hard work pay off and raise his grades from D’s to B’s!!

      Substitute Teacher

I have a group of teachers who contact me personally to substitute teach their students for the day, a few days or as long as they need me to fill in. I follow the lessons that they have prepared and make sure that there is learning happening while they are out of their classroom. I also fulfill the duties that the teacher has on campus whether that be recess duty, bus duty or even recess detention. I do any prep work that needs to be done and I make sure the classroom is left better than when I arrived, with a note that entails all that happened throughout the day. This is so the teacher can have peace of mind about what was accomplished or not accomplished while they were not with their students.

I was asked to be a long term substitute while a full time position was open, due to the leaving of a teacher. This is where I had the opportunity to show that I can do more than what was expected of me. I pulled materials for lessons and collaborated with other kindergarten teachers on how they were teaching a lesson with their students. I even took prep work home to do for the following days. I also met with small groups to teach and check for understanding of math skills during centers while the reading specialist worked on reading skills. One of the amazing things that I had the opportunity to teach and implement was the caring and respect of school materials, they had not had the enforcement of this rule and I had the opportunity to see them go from not respecting the school materials to totally respecting the materials and making sure they they were put away in their proper places! Site Substitute Teacher

This position began as a long-term substitute teaching position from the start of the school year, until the beginning on November. This is where I was able to really show the skills that I have and build and grow new skills in teaching. Since I was able to build relationships with the students and their parents in the online teaching model, I was able to grow leaps and bounds into the full time teaching world. I worked with my PLC daily and learned so much from master teachers. Learning classroom management for online learning was a whole new thing to tackle since teachers had not experienced this before, there was a lot of trial and error until we found a good way to work together in the online community classroom.

Then I transitioned into being the site sub at the same school, a week after I finished the long term position. This was a big trassition because it was not only the end of my long term- but it was the end of fully online learning. We are now in a hybrid model where I am filling in when teachers are out, testing students for BAS and helping in any way that I can throughout the week. Being a part of the staff allows me to understand what is going on in this school community and I am better able to help the campus since I know the staff and students. Show less
