      Part of RMIT's 'Industry Based Learning' for the Professional Accountancy degree, I worked as an accounting and actuarial assistant at an actuary consulting firm located in Melbourne's CBD. This co-op placement was a full-time, 12 month placement with the aim of providing me with exposure to areas in accountancy, business and actuarial services.Accounting tasks (Using Xero software): • Bank reconciliations• Chasing up debtors• Payables/Receivables • Payroll & Superannuation• BAS and assisting the financial controller in the preparation of annual special purpose financial reports.• Prepaid expenses adjustments & depreciation of fixed assets. Actuarial work: • Preparation & Completion of s295.390 actuary certificates for Self-Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSF's). All certificates are aimed to be completed within 30-60 minutes upon request.• Also provide administrative assistance to actuaries on any jobs involving life interest valuations or loss of earnings reports. This may include entering data and organising documents. Achievements/Notable responsibilties: • Able to complete all month end accounting tasks within 5 days of the following month.• Given the responsibility to interview and choose the next co-op employee. I was also primarily responsible for the induction and training/handover for this new employee. • Had 95% of SMSF actuarial certificates completed within 30-60 minutes upon client request. • Was given an opportunity to research about a particular SMSF issue which would be presented in the form of a fact sheet. The issue was on 'Event Based Reporting for SMSF's". • Created and completed an RMIT research paper on "Accounting software and it's effect on the accounting profession and function within businesses". This included a comparison of 4 different small/medium business accounting softwares and a recommendation on whether Cumpston Sarjeant was using the most effective software for their business. Was offered a full-time graduate position within the firm after completion of the program. • Quickly adapted to accounting software (XPA and Tax Manager) to draft financials and tax returns for Individuals, Companies and Trusts.• Displayed clear communication skills when liaising with the ATO via telephone to amend client details as well as arrange payment plans for outstanding debts.Key Achievement: Chosen as group leader (16 vacationers) for a presentation on the Australia/China trade relationship. Upon completion of the vacation program at ShineWing Australia, I was offered a Graduate Accountant role within the firm's business and private client advisory division. This role mainly involved assisting SME's and HNW family groups with their tax and accounting compliance. It was a great opportunity to learn about tax, as well as public practice accountancy.

Investor Relations tasks: - Meetings with large investors along with the CEO, CFO and GM (Investor relations) to ensure our largest shareholders are aware of financial performance and strategy. - Analysing share price trends and changes in substantial holders. Communicating this data in a visual manner to the ELT and Board via a monthly report pack. - Monitoring external broker conensus financial models to assess how the company prospects are viewed externally. Planning (FP&A) tasks: - Analysing broker/sell-side analyst consensus financial models to guide the FP&A team on budgeting/forecasts/actuals. Ensures insightful comparison of internal budget/forecast/actuals vs market expectation.- Creating the FY22 results presentation that the CEO/CFO refer to when presenting to the ASX. Ensuring different teams have provided the correct information so myself and the wider FP&A team can review its accuracy and desired messaging to investors.       Preparation and Project Management of routine reporting packs (CEO Report, Board pack, Financial Performance Pack, Investor Presentation, Flash Report) to ensure senior management have timely, accurate and insightful information to make well-informed decisions about MLCL.Partnering with the corporate strategy team on finalising the annual business plan document. Assistance with the finalisation of the FY24-28 Business Plan, liaising with the planning actuary to confirm updated impact on key metrics, as well as liaising with the company investor on queries regarding the business Plan. Flagging to senior management areas of concern in financial performance (e.g. poor performance in Income Protection claims, caused by mental health claims) within comunicated monthly packs. This prompts the company to take further action to mitigate the risk of this trend blowing out. Liaising with the company investor (Nippon Life) on agenda items for upcoming investor presentations to ensure both management and the investor focus their attention on the areas that matter. Ensuring the investor pack is accurate and completed on time by all submitting parties. Creation and distribution of weekly insights for the Individual Insurance division on key indicators (sales, submissions, conversion rate and suspense). This includes liaising with people in the division to ensure ongoing enhancement of this weekly report to meet their requirements of insights.Identifying ways to further enhance the insights communicated in packs produced.
