I determine the nature and degree of exposures to chemicals and toxic agents and then find or invent ways to prevent and control exposures. I conceive and invent new methods to evaluate and controls exposure risks. I work with private companies who license CDC/NIOSH inventions to transfer these inventions into commercial products that can benefit workers and the public. Examples of successful inventions include the Handwipe Disclosure Method for the Presence of Lead (commercially sold under the brand name Full Disclosure), the Handwipe Decontamination Method for Lead and Toxic Metals (commercially sold under the brand names of Hygenall and LeadTech wipes), and Surface Detection Method for Methamphetamine (sold under the brand name of MethAlert).
