      Activities and Societies: School Captain Amnesty International Medic's Society Debating Society Rugby team I was School Captain at St. Olave's from 2012-2013, and a Prefect before that. For my A-Levels, I enjoyed studying Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Design & Technology. I was also the head of the Amnesty International Society, and regularly attended Medic's Society meetings.

      Summer Research Student

      I completed a four week lab experience placement at Imperial College London under Dr Charlotte Dean in the NHLI. During this placement, I learnt a number of important lab techniques, including how to practice in a laboratory using aseptic technique, how to culture cells and how to perform immunofluorescent staining unassisted. By the end of the placement, I had collected novel data and images looking into protein localisation during cell migration and healing.

      I was very fortunate to be able to spend a month on a General Surgery Internship in the Landeskrankenhaus, Salzburg, during the break between my third and fourth years of medical school.As part of this attachment, I was able to assist in multiple bariatric, colorectal and hepatobiliary operations, in addition to watching orthopaedic procedures too. This opportunity allowed me to greatly strengthen my basic surgical skills, as well as appreciate the anatomy I had learnt in previous years. During the weekends and time off, I enjoyed exploring Salzburg and the surrounding Alpine region, and got to know the wonderful people in the Krankenhaus as well as town! Show less

In addition to the standard requirements of the Foundation Programme, this AFP also has a research focus of surgery, and I'm looking to forward to getting stuck into surgical research within North West London.

      IHI Open School Scholarship IHI Open School Feb 2018 This Scholarship was generously awarded by the IHI Open School and BMJ (British Medical Journal), which provided subsidised entry to the International Forum for Quality and Safety in Healthcare Conference 2018, held in Amsterdam. At this Conference, I presented the results of an audit into thromboprophylaxis compliance in elective orthopaedic hip and knee arthroplasty patients performed at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital the preceeding year.

I worked in a team with 3 others to deliver a presentation on an interesting vascular surgery case.

The award was based on my portfolio of patients whom I had encountered and clerked during my time at the hospital.
