      Employee

This was from junior high through high school 15-18. Although working part-time at Dairy Queen, I had started working in electronics and started working in local electronic shops and Sears Radio/TV repair (repairing TV's, stereos, amplifiers, etc).

    • Gerstmeyer Tech

      Sept 1967 - May 1970
      Developer / Student

Developed my electronics background here, while working 2 other part-time jobs. I was still able to place 3rd in the state (Indiana) in Vocational Electronics competition; electronics circuit design, building and servicing. I worked for several electronics shops during this time until I decided to join the U.S. Navy since Vietnam was getting hot and I was #11 in the draft that year.

    • U.S. Navy - Naval Security Group

      Aug 1970 - Feb 1977
      Electronics Countermeasures Technician

I was accepted into the U.S. Navy at the E3 pay grades (instead of the normal E1 pay grade). I had already had my vocational electronics training and upon entry into the Navy at 18, I scored at 4-year college-level in electronics. I was immediately assigned to the Naval Security Group (Naval Engineering Facilities) in Washington DC and given a top-secret security clearance with crypto access. I worked on projects (computer systems installation and wiring systems) there and in Winter Harbor, Maine. I received detailed training in wide-band radio direction finding systems, signal interception and analysis and electronics counter- measures surveillance systems and served in Chicago, Washington DC, Winter Harbor, Pensacola, Adak, Alaska and Wahiawa, Hawaii.Additional duties involved working with an RCA engineer on a special project, assisting in installing and setting up a classified test facility and develop testing procedures for various projects while maintaining classified electronics countermeasures equipment and systems and also lead up 'C'harlie section for a while. My 6 1/2 years was during the Vietnam era. Show less

IBM offered me a position with them after I left the U.S. Navy (Electronics Countermeasures). I worked in 3 different IBM divisions and worked with small and medium-sized IBM computers, networks, keypunch and communications equipment. This included working on magnetic media, office and computerized word-processing systems; keypunch equipment; System/32, System/34, 5110, S/23 (DataMaster), data entry systems (3741, 3742, etc), 5180's, Series 1 computer systems POS (Point of Sale systems) communications and networks. I was one of the first IBMers trained on the IBM PC. I was also loaned out to other IBM offices and traveled to Atlanta, Milwaukee and Lexington while on different projects and training. Show less

    • PolyOne

      Mar 1988 - Mar 2003
Mfg / Engineering Information Systems Specialist

I was hired by BFGoodrich to help setup the first network in the Terre Haute plant and write the software for their first production scheduling and Lab systems. I spent the next 15 years as the plant data processing manager and resident custom software developer, writing over 2 dozen applications for the Terre Haute plant. Over the years, I became a shared resource between as many as 16 locations throughout the United States and Canada. I worked on projects with several plants, the corporate purchasing department, corporate engineering and the IS&T department. I authored over a couple of dozen plant-specific applications, which I eventually organized under the BlueSky project (in 3 phases). I developed a shipping application utilizing some of the first barcoding technologies used by the plant. I authored the Raw Material Supplier Nonconformance system, written at the request of corporate purchasing and the Quality Director and used at 16 PolyOne locations in North America. I was the lead programmer and wrote the OSI/PI libraries used in an experimental project in New Jersey for interfacing data between the process control production environment and the SAP systems. I served on several corporate committees and helped guide the incorporation of PC's into the business networks and plant environments. My last project was the CPP (Central Processing Parameters) project that integrated most processes from product scientists and their formulas, process engineers, production planners and the production environment. This project was fully functional, but about 90% completed when I left the company.I was trained on ONSPEC Control Software and wrote logic for Gould Modicon programmable controllers (Model 984), DEC VAX/VMS 3600 computers, used VAX DCL and MS-DOS command languages, SmartStar RDBMS, trained in Oracle RDBMS (for administrators and advanced Oracle for developers), MS SQL Server, wrote software in C, Pascal, Visual Basic, Clipper and Cobol. Feb 2004 - now
      Owner

I currently spread my time between writing custom software for small businesses and organizations. I have written all the software in every division of one company and linked their network to a website for interfacing with their customers. I have also added Graphics Designer and marketing when I became involved with my wife's company. So far, I have designed and produced 2 TV commercials and numerous print ads. I have settled into writing custom software, developing and maintaining websites, maintaining small business networks, their data, backups and provide remote support and training (as requested). I provide IT support services for small businesses and organizations that need the skills of an experienced full-time IT professional. I have programmed applications in 12 languages and I am adding 3 more languages as I now move into the world of software development for mobile devices. Show less

      Dec 2007 - Jun 2013
      Graphics Designer and Software Developer

I started this with Donate Local, a second company for my wife and I. Besides maintaining the websites that we use, I also use several graphics design packages (including Adobe Creative Suite 6 Production Premium) to use the video production tools to make a couple of TV commercials and do a few magazine, newspaper and flyer ads). Custom software development is my main skill with graphics design projects being taken, as required, for the second business.
