      Business Owner

Offering a menu and ambiance inspired by the honesty, seasonality, and skill found in modern British cooking, The Commoner was firmly and proudly embedded within its local setting – one that happily mirrored both the produce and seasons found in Europe. The Commoner provided a uniquely local approach to traditional British cooking. All our produce was sourced, grown ourselves or foraged as locally as possible and our team took particular delight in creating everything on site; from the sourdough that welcomed you, to the clotted cream poured lovingly over your dessert… The Commoner was a space where people could enjoy truly beautiful food and wine, served with genuine warmth and hospitality. The Commoner first opened her doors in 2007, presenting a uniquely British addition to the existing restaurant scene in Melbourne. Upon the sale of the restaurant nine years later, we were very proud of the reputation we had built within this city’s vibrant and progressive food scene for our distinctive blend of honest seasonal cooking and progressive kitchen skills. From humble beginnings, The Commoner grew to incorporate the garden courtyard and versatile upper floor spaces. We hosted many of your joyful celebrations and delighted in your lives progressing. Show less

'Mushrooms Anonymous' was set up by my partner, chef and avid forager Matthew Donnelly, 8 years ago. We supply Melbourne's best restaurants with foraged and home grown delicate edibles such as wild mushrooms, fennel pollen, Elderflower extract and home grown herbs. We also ferment our own delicious Australian black garlic.
