  After my graduation I joined the faculty as an Instructor. During my stay at the university, I was conducting practical classes to first, second and third year students in Digital Electronic Laboratory under supervision of Dr. Janaka Wijekulasooriya. He asked me to re-organized laboratory and practical sessions. I rearranged the laboratory to maximize the space usage to conduct the practical more comfortably. I gave life to number of abundant equipment. Few more practical were added which were very useful for students to understand the practical reality in the theories. All second engineer students loved the practical session which I introduced on computer architecture. I explained the computer architecture in deep and demonstrated how 8 bit computer works. After checking the end semester exam papers, Dr. Janaka had understood a difference in this batch compared to others. He gave me a special thank for what I did. During my instructor life I had enough free time and I wanted to use it to improve my industrial experience. I got a chance to work in an Electrical and Automation company close to university as a consultant. They were well experienced in electrical side but weak with automation and with new technologies. I could do few projects with them. One factory in Industrial Zone, Pallekale had bought a used machine from India which was used to prepare metal roof sheets from metal sheet drums. The control system was out of order and original manufacture was asking unreasonable charge to replace it. Our task was to replace old control system with a new one. To reduce the total cost we should use same old sensors. It was a real challenge at the beginning of my carrier. I developed a control system within two months and drew the 200m long machine up to customer’s satisfaction. Then I designed a battery charger for Kundasale Auto Work. They needed a battery charger which they could set the time and charge the battery for given time omitting power down time. Show less

  Tabula had come up with newer solution of making FPGA which is called 3PLD. In general one circuit will be mapped on semiconductor layer. In 3PLD, to get the desired output the main circuit is divided into 8 sub circuits and these 8 circuits will be mapped on the same layer by time multiplexing. Output of one circuit will fed to next circuit as input. Task of our team was to write macros for different digital units like adders, multiplexers, multipliers and etc. These macros were written by three other engineers and my duty is to prepare proper documentation for end user. In other words I should write datasheet for the macros. I had to read complete cording, run test files and understand its full behavior then do the documentation. There was another third party company situated in another country to test the accuracy of these macros. Surprising everyone I could found few hidden bugs in already tested and used macros. I really enjoyed the work and there were no big rules. I got selected to CDPLC and due to many reasons I had to left readyASIC and join to CDPLC. ReadyASIC didn’t want to lose me because of the talents shown by me during my 3 months of stay. Managers from USA also directly contacted me to stop me but I had to left readyASIC sadly. However I completed all documentation for all the macros which they had developed before I left the company. Show less

  Colombo Dockyard PLC

  Design Engineer

  After short employment as an instructor of Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya and as an Engineer in Tabula Inc (Silicon Valley Company in USA), he joined Colombo Dockyard PLC as a design engineer in ship building industry. For five and half years he served as a design engineer as well as design team leader giving his engineering and project management skills for 15 new vessels. These ships were built for different purposes and in each series, he could learn about a lot of new technologies and able to interact with engineers from different countries. From the beginning he was a special young engineer who got the attention of the all the workers as well as the management. He developed yard standard for electrical installation, solved many technical issues, developed quality of delivering engineering designs and test protocols, optimize the test protocol sequence in sea trials which reduced sea trial time from 14 days to 7 days. During this period he could complete his charter and as well as PG.Dip in Electrical Installation from Faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa. Further he could complete PMP certification to become a certified project manager. Show less

  With five and half years of design experience in Colombo Dockyard PLC, he decided to get experience in installation. Therefore, he joined Maxaire Pvt Ltd as Manager Projects. At a given time he managed about 20 projects in Electrical Installation and ELV Installation. Few of the key projects he could delivered during his stay in Maxaire Pvt Ltd are Havelock City Apartment Project Phase 4, London Stock Exchange office complex, ATG Gloves Factory in Katunayake and Koggala. During his stay of Maxaire Pvt Ltd, he could learn, project planning, project execution, labor handling, billing, budget handling and testing and commissioning. It was a great opportunity to get experience in building service engineering all types of buildings, high rise apartment buildings, commercial buildings, factories and hotels. Show less

  In 2020 Wininda joined Hayleys Fentons as a Project Manager. He was assigned to mega project done by Access Engineering to manage both electrical installation and fire detection scopes. This is the second largest warehouse in South Asia expanding over 50,000 square meters. Project was to be completed with very tight schedule and with very high safety and quality standard followed by no.1 tire manufacturer of the world, Michelin. There were a lot of challenges in the project and he could help client to overcome those challenges using knowledge and experience gathered during his past. Success completion of the project by providing best engineering solutions for customer requirements and helping customer to overcome different challenges, made him get appreciation from both Fentons Management as well as Access Engineer PLC Management.
