  Software Engineer and Teacher's Assistant

  At USU, I worked as a teacher's assistant for Web Development, Discrete Mathematics, and Statistics. These roles allowed me to more fully explore the foundations of web development and the mathematical foundations of computer science while helping (and sometimes lecturing, when the professor was out) groups of 15-100+ students.While working as a teacher's assistant, I also found an opportunity to develop software that would benefit students. I suggested to the statistics professor that we build out all the statistical functionality that students used their calculators for as a website, and she took me up on the offer. I then designed the system from the bottom up in raw HTML and JavaScript, taking feedback from the professor on what functionality should be added or how the user interface should be adjusted. The site included visual graphs of the statistical tests and integrals alongside the computations of the various tests. Coding the computations required an understanding of statistics and calculus as well as the ability to put the computations into code with sufficient accuracy. The end product has been used by hundreds of students over the years, allowing them to take the course without purchasing a calculator. Show less

  Part of working at a small company is wearing a lot of hats and learning to be an expert in various areas. At iSparks, I took on a myriad of tasks, including designing and building the core of our customer support and internal tools, migrating legacy sites to more modern, supported frameworks, building out customer control panels for managing spam filters, creating internal spam verification tools, building virtual environments with Linux and docker containers, managing virtual and physical servers, and even managing a successful automated trading algorithm and internal platform for employees to invest in.
