  • About me

Founder - DragonSkin Stingray Resistant Booties

  • Education

    • University of California, San Diego

      2013 - 2017
      Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering

Activities and Societies: IEEE/Micromouse, Warren Honors Society, Philosophy Club (The Elucidated Brethren) Regents Scholar (but I also have fun)Graduated June 2017GPA: 3.85

    • Naval Postgraduate School

      2020 - 2021
      Graduate Certificate Robotics Engineering 3.91

In parallel to my work at NIWC Pacific, I took a four-course, remote program in Robotics Engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School. The course covered a range of topics such as path planning, control theory, coordinate transforms, and machine learning. In lectures, we learned theoretical concepts and algorithms, and in homework, we applied those concepts in MATLAB and python programming assignments.

  • Experience

    • City of Davis

      May 2010 - Sept 2012
      Lifeguard

I was a summer pool lifeguard with the City of Davis for three years. I enforced rules, answered questions, and watched over patrons to ensure safety.

    • University of California, San Diego

      Sept 2013 - Jun 2014
      Undergraduate Researcher

I worked with Professor Sonia Martinez, a mechanical engineering professor doing research in cooperative robotics at UCSD. Over the year, I learned the basics of ROS, a programming language that provides general functionality for programming robots, and began to set up/troubleshoot the robotic network needed for our project.

    • UC Davis Agricultural Robotics Group

      Jun 2014 - Aug 2014
      Summer Engineering Intern

I worked with Professor Stavros Vougioukas, a mechanical engineering professor at UC Davis, doing research in agricultural robotics. I worked on ROS based control software for a large agricultural vehicle equipped with a laser scanner and various other sensors with the end goal of autonomous orchard navigation to aid agricultural workers.

    • UC Davis Automated Highway Maintenance Group (AHMCT)

      Jul 2015 - Sept 2015
      Summer Engineering Intern

I worked with Professor Bahram Ravani, a mechanical engineering professor at UC Davis doing research in automatic highway maintenance and construction. I created a highway mapping device to be operated by a user riding shotgun. The device uses an Arduino Mega with a GPS and SD card shield, and logs various geographic features of the highway in question (number of lanes, shoulders, and on/off ramps) to the SD card alongside GPS coordinates for later analysis in Matlab. The device was used by UC Davis in partnership with Caltrans in order to inform the decision of whether or not to buy a specific (and very expensive) type of snowplow. Show less

    • UCSD Coordinated Robotics Lab

      Jan 2017 - Jun 2017
      Undergraduate Researcher

Worked with undergraduate teammate on cable-actuated payload for NASA SUPERBall robot (connected via graduate student mentor Jeffrey Friesen). Repurposed, redesigned, and integrated components/concepts from Friesen’s high-DOF joint PhD project to make a locomotion-focused prototype. (Made our own parts too!)

    • NASA Ames Research Center

      Jul 2017 - Sept 2017
      Robotics Intern

Continued SUPERBall payload project that began at UCSD before graduation. Designed, prototyped, and (mostly) manufactured payload. Implemented preliminary control in NASA Tensegrity simulator NTRT. Learned a lot from mentors and lab mates, and had a great time in the pirate lab!

    • Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific

      Aug 2018 - Nov 2024
      Engineer

Rotational assignments in five different groups, in which I worked on a wide variety of projects spanning mechanical engineering, software development, and robotics. Permanently assigned to Underwater Autonomous Vehicle group; currently hold team lead position.

    • DragonSkin LLC

      Oct 2024 - now
      Founder

One of three founders of DragonSkin. My responsibilities include product development, testing, marketing, and generally whatever needs to be done!
