  I translate and transcribe interviews concerning the poor air quality present in Boyle Heights under Ph.D. student Connie Valencia. The research team aims to gain insight on the hardships immigrants in the Adelanto Detention Center have endured during the surging COVID-19 pandemic. With detailed interviews and meticulous medical data we hope to highlight any disparities present in the way these detainees have been treated. The goal of our project is to forward these insights to our state government officials so they can remediate these concerns to the best of their abilities. This research aims to introduce students to the global health challenge of antibiotic-resistance, strategies for problem-solving, and curriculum development to bridge gaps in knowledge about antibiotics. Policy research will be conducted on this topic to do real-life exploration on how to add curriculum into various school districts. I plan meetings with learning objectives for first-generation, low income, minority Freshmen and Sophomores so they can manage college life at UCI. Topics of discussion range from study tips, available resources, self-care, and academic/career planning. With the help of a fellow peer mentor and two Graduate/PhD students, we provide a solid foundation for their success and to overcome adversities faced during their studies at UCI.
