It was life changing for me as community leaders from all walks of life invited us into inner-city homes, businesses. schools and community activities to open our hearts and minds to understand the gifts and challenges of the students and families in urban districts. We had families "adopt" us and Black Panthers come to "tell it like it is." We did our student teaching in the Hough community in downtown Cleveland in the era of riots in the streets. Although I am no longer a classroom teacher, I am grateful for every opportunity I have to work with educators as I so value their contributions in helping to raise our children. My love for the teaching profession - its joys and challenges - was the catalyst for the Masters level course, "The Healthy Workplace: Enhancing Emotional Wellness in Schools", which I wrote and facilitated for The Ohio State University. The People Skills Company is the organizational name I have had since 1989. The work took on a larger scope of elements over time that were key to creating places where people want to work. To reflect that larger scope, the name became The Healthy Workplace, Ltd. in 1995.

    • The Healthy Workplace, Ltd.

      Oct 1989 - now
      Founder

My passion since beginning my consulting practice in 1989 has been in helping organizations create places where people WANT to work; where employees feel valued for their contributions and know how to successfully fulfill their roles within the organization. I provide consulting, coaching and training to assist leaders and their employees in building their cultural brand for achieving organizational goals that create vitality and viability in the marketplace. In almost every situation I find the use of individual and group assessments invaluable in developing personal insights and skills for working in teams and building relationships with colleagues and customers. Three of our key focus areas of skill development with clients are understanding behavioral styles for optimizing the talents of a diverse workforce, listening skills that go beyond the active listening formula into building ongoing effective communication and emotional intelligence that is the foundation for navigating successfully through every aspect of our personal and professional lives. Connecting the head and heart is the path to value-based living that gives meaning and purpose to our work. My professional credentials include Everything DiSC® Workplace® Certification, Accredited Facilitator of the Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team™, Certified Professional, PXT Select™, a Wiley Brand and Emotional Skills Assessment Process (ESAP) of the Emotional Intelligence Learning Systems, Inc. In serving my national and international clients, I have developed and facilitate such courses as “The CL.E.A.R. Responsibilities of Leadership"©, “Up Your Maslow – Helping People Navigate Change”©, “The Art of Positive Influence” and "Emotional IQ: Essential Skills for Leadership". Show less

    • The Complete Secretary

      Jan 1999 - Jan 2004
      Owner

My sister, Lynne Palmer, owned this business for 30 years. When she passed in 1999, we felt it was important to keep the business going to serve her loyal customers, many of whom came to her memorial service to tell wonderful stories of their friendship with her. In 2004, we sold the business realizing it was simply time to let go and place it in the hands of people who enjoyed this work almost as much as Lynne did.

    • International Society of Performance Improvement

Human Performance Technology - Helping People Improve their performance

    • The Freedom's Path Initiative, LLC

      Jan 2007 - now
      Founding Member

My colleague, Dr. Karl M. Klett and I provide presentations, workshops, coaching and consulting on positively impacting the schoolyard to prison yard pipeline. Although some may think this work is reserved for educators, people who work in the justice system, social workers and parents, it is actually the work of the whole community. In the saying, "it takes a village to raise a child" is the awareness that we all contribute to and are impacted by the choices our children make as they create their paths that set the course for their adult lives. We believe that the most telling and profound real world education comes in how we each choose to live our lives. The choices we make each day in what we think, say and do are teaching our children who we are, what we believe and whom we value. Show less

    • The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team

      Apr 2014 - now
      Authorized Partner and Accredited Facilitator

The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team™ has a simple goal: To facilitate a learning experience that helps professionals and their organizations discover what it takes to build a truly cohesive and effective team. The Five Behaviors profile, which provides both individual and team feedback, is grounded in the model described in The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, the internationally best-selling leadership fable by Patrick Lencioni. With this program, participants will learn how, as a team, they score on the key components of the model: trust, conflict, commitment, accountability, and results. Additionally, the program is powered by Everything DiSC®, a model that helps individuals to understand themselves and others better. Using these results, participants will be able to create a better, stronger team. Show less

      Board Member

Kindway is a non-profit organization whose programs and services are designed to assist its participants on their journey from incarceration toward independence as responsible, contributing members of their communities. Since its inception in 2011, Kindway has been recognized as an organization that helps to transform lives. For those who have participated in Kindway's programs in prison and have been released, we are grateful to say that our recidivism rate is under 2% compared to the rate in our state of approximately 30%. Please click on the link below to learn more about the programs and hear the success stories. As a Board member, I am gratified to support the work of Kindway in reaching out to those who are so easy for many of us to want to dismiss as members of our society. Show less
