Over 23 years experience in various Hydrographic Ships, including Commanding Officer of HMSML GLEANER, and Operations Officer of HMS ROEBUCK and HMS SCOTT. These three appointments alone giving me hydrographic experience from close inshore shoal waters to surveying the deep oceans. My last sea appointment was aboard HMS PROTECTOR, the Royal Navy's Ice Patrol Ship where as First Lieutenant I acted as second in command ensuring the smooth running of all aspects of the ships functions, and as Charge Surveyor, providing oversight and quality control functions for all surveys carried out by the ship and her launch.Over the last 10 years, time at sea has been interspersed with a number of shore appointments. A brief spell at the Fleet Meteorological centre, providing worldwide forecasts for the Royal Navy was followed by a number of years as the Squadron Operations Officer responsible for the programming of all Hydrographic Ships in the Royal Navy. Time at the UK Hydrographic Office, writing hydrographic instructions and controlling the appraisal of rendered data then lead to my appointment as First Lieutenant of HMS PROTECTOR.While this brief synopsis gives an idea of the main functions I have carried out within the Royal Navy, as with all military personnel, I have conducted numerous other ancillary functions including Health and Safety Officer, and Security Officer as well as having worked with budgets, contracts and numerous non military agencies and companies.
