      My first UI design job was to translate a DOS-based SGML text editor, WriterStation, to the nascent GUI world of IBM's OS2. I learned a ton about generic markup systems which later made HTML seem like a piece of cake. Datalogics partnered with IBM Publishing System to sell WriterStation under IBM's brand TextWrite and I got my first taste of commercial software development, business travel, and made some lifelong friends.

      Lead user interface designer for SPSS, a statistical data analysis application used on desktop and minicomputers. Created SPSS user interface for Windows, MacOS, and OSF/Motif platforms. Designed appearance and functionality of tabular and graphic results. Created data visualization interfaces for multivariate data analyses, including brushing, data linking, and variable substitution interfaces.
