    • JAMES SCOTT LIMITED

      Aug 1987 - Jan 1998

During this time I was fortunate to gain experience as the overall site manager in railway, retail, healthcare and educational projects within both Scotland and England. This is where I became aware of the use of 3D/BIM for assisting in the design of projects. Part of growing up and enjoying the trade I had worked so hard to get. The best place in Scotland to earn an apprenticeship, worked with some fantastic guys and learned so much. I was very fortunate to have gained this exposure.

      Jan 1998 - Mar 2007

This was a fantastic role on an excellent project with my team; we designed and built using 3D/BIM. Safety was paramount to what we did and in the words of the client it was ‘history in the making’. We delivered £60m worth of MEP Services over 270,000sqm and achieved 70% prefabrication and modularisation. I was the project manager on major redevelopments of one of the world’s busiest airports, where we delivered the MEP Services for new baggage systems, departure lounges and piers. It was also my first exposure to the potential for prefabrication and modularisation of MEP Services. This was my first undertaking as the project engineer to complete new airport facilities and security systems at multiple locations in London Heathrow.

I was responsible for all aspects of the MEP Services delivery of a 28,000sqm 21 storey shell & core and partial Fit Out mixed use commercial and residential project in London through a two stage Design & Build contract including procurement of MEP Services, Lifts, Chilled and suspended ceilings. This project had the usual high-rise and central city logistical challenges.• Full 3D / pure BIM / 4D planning and management, coordination and preparation of working drawings. I was the senior MEP Services leader of a team of colleagues who successfully procured the total project and delivered the first stage of this £215m 18 storey new build art gallery at the Blavatnik Building, Tate Modern, London. Where the twelve individual packages we looked after amounted to £28m.During this period I was also an essential part of the bid team that secured the £105m extension to the British Museum in London. This was my first project with Mace where I was the MEP Services lead within a team of colleagues who successfully delivered the Shell & Core Services; to an iconic riverside development over 56,000sqm and 10 storeys worth £115m with my team’s package values being worth £22m.• This was the first project in the UK to achieve BREEAM ‘outstanding’ equivalent of NZGBC 6 star rating. • Our team embarked on full 3D / BIM management and coordination.
