  Sustainable Development Living Lab Project: Ndumo Game Reserve, South Africa

  The Living Lab was a collaboration project between KU Leuven (Belgium) and North-West University (South Africa) in Ndumo Game Reserve, KwaZulu Natal. The project aimed to give first-hand experience in assessing sustainable development challenges in the Global South and provided the best solutions for the region's development. The project was divided into five aspects: the social aspect of agriculture, youth development, water and ecology, food and energy chains, and land development. During two weeks of a field trip, all students participated in the independent observation, interviewing the stakeholders, sampling biophysical conditions, plant species identification, and assessment of aquatic systems. I was personally responsible for the social aspect of agriculture and youth development. - Conducted quantitative and qualitative research, e.g., field sampling, environmental assessment, interviews, and observations.- Analyzed social and economic conditions, water access, market access for agricultural products, and local or regional agricultural cooperatives. Theoretical approaches focused on environmental justice and political ecology.- Developed the scientific report and proposed policy recommendations for the region. Show less
