      The one-year post graduate level course covers aspects in exercise rehabilitating for individuals who suffer from a range of cardiac health problems. Within the course, we use specific skills such as:• Client focused exercise supervision and prescription• Screening of patients for cardiac risk factors• Exercise stress tests• Managing of a clinic and administrative support of client data

      In 2003, the inaugural Special K Triathlon series produced nine triathlons over eleven weekends from Invercargill to Whangarei and encouraged over 9000 women to do their first triathlon. In my role as event manager I liaised with councils to organise events, oversaw the set up, production, pack down, timing and service payments, and developed and provided training programmes for athletes.

      The Order of St John provides young people with the chance to learn first aid and develop life skills. As Regional Recreation Manager, I prepared and managed several large annual events including; youth camps, swimming sports, dance parties and leaders forums. This was a volunteer role.

      Physical Activity Advisor

      The National Heart Foundation aims to improve the cardiovascular health of all New Zealanders. My role included; providing advice and guidance on physical activity initiatives, event coordination and resource development. I was involved with developing national policy on physical activity, and providing direction on urban design for active living.

      Quigley and Watts is a research and evaluation company with a focus on community health and wellbeing. During my time at Quigley and Watts I worked with Auckland University of Technology to provide recommendations on the Heart Foundations’ strategic physical activity direction. I have also evaluated a community based physical activity programme for the Bay of Plenty District Health Board, and developed case studies of health promotion for the Ministry of Education.       My role at Massey University involves managing six staff in an 800 member gym; indoor netball and soccer leagues; a group fitness programme; and annual fitness events at Massy University Wellington. I develop the strategic direction and operational plan of the recreation, sport and fitness services at Massey, in conjunction with other service providers. My role oversees an annual operational budget of $280k.
