  Thesis: Macroporous ceramics derived from particle-stabilized foams The MgO-water system was studied, aiming to control the magnesium hydroxide formation in order to use magnesia as an alternative binder to refractory castables. It was possible to adjust the way Mg(OH)2 is formed by controlling its nucleation and growth mechanism. Three scientific articles were published in the Journal of the American Ceramic Society, Journal of the European Ceramic Society and Ceramics International.

  Development of manipulative materials for teaching and learning mathematics. These materials were made with rejected wood from carpentry and construction industries and the goal was to create a portfolio of effective manipulative materials for teaching and learning mathematics, which could be manufactured and sold by Solidarity Economy groups. As the main result, a novel material was developed and patented, and its efficiency to help learning and teaching mathematics was demonstrated.

  Studies on the long term stabilization of calcium aluminate particles in aqueous suspensions and their reactivation in order to create solid samples were carried out. It was possible to adjust the kinetics of hydration after reactivation, allowing the CAC-based slurries to solidify at different times. Feedstocks for additive manufacturing and colloidal processing routes are potential fields of application for the developed products and their routes for reactivation. Some results of this research were presented in a technical conference, and forthcoming articles will be published. Show less
