      - Set up aid project in remote rural area approximately 1 week's walk from nearest road, 14,000 feet up in the Hindu Kush - possibly first westerners ever to visit this area, part of which was then just a "blank" area on the map of Afghanistan.- Made initial contact with local people.- Started unscrambling local unwritten tribal language.- Set up and recruited specialist expatriate team to work there.- Had to negotiate in local language with senior Taliban and leaders of other radical Islamist groups such as Hezb-i-Islami now being hunted as terrorists by western forces.- Board member International Assistance Mission.
