      Former Executive Director AmCham India

I started working in 1984 with the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and took up individual cases of business disputes, contract infringement and trade issues. I regularly visited Germany and was given additional charge of representing the Berlin Trade fairs in India. I helped organize India’s Partner Country participation in Berlin. In 1998 I was promoted as the Regional Director and in 2002 as Deputy Director General. I led several business delegation to Germany and maintained relations with the Indian and German Government. In 2008 I took up a new position as Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in India. AmCham is an exclusive association of US companies in India and the US Ambassador to India is the Honorary President. CEOs of major US companies in India are on the board of AmCham. I worked with CEOs of US MNCs in India viz. IBM, Coca Cola, Boeing, GE and Ford. I increased the activities and knowledge based events manifold leading to a greater outreach, improved role in advocacy, public policy and higher acceptability of the organization in Government and policy making institutions in India and the US. Advocacy efforts on behalf of US MNCs was intensified during my tenure as ED. An annual delegation of India based CEOs of US MNCs was launched by me to visit Washington DC to meet Senators and Congressmen and appraise them of bilateral high points, regulatory challenges and policy related bottlenecks impacting US business in India. Issues of US companies in India were therefore addressed at all bilateral forum between the two nations. Representations to Government were regularly drafted with the help of sector committees and sent out for improving government policy and regulations. New publications and studies were commissioned to improve the knowledge base of the Chamber’s government advocacy efforts. I also spent time in Washington DC and interacted extensively with the US Government on trade, IPR and regulatory matters. Show less
