The results of the study suggest that: a) the production planning optimization algorithm managed to achieve higher performance compared to… Show more This study’s goals are threefold: a) the development of an efficient production planning optimization scheme with the development of a simple and fast metaheuristic algorithm, b) the development of advanced hybrid metaheuristic algorithms for common shop scheduling problems, c) the unification and integration of these algorithms under the common ERP shell. The results of the study suggest that: a) the production planning optimization algorithm managed to achieve higher performance compared to the embedded functionality of a modern ERP system, b) the production scheduling optimization algorithms developed compete with the state-of-the-art metaheuristic methodologies, yet they are easy to implement, they are fast and simple in structure. It should be mentioned that they managed to find new best solutions in certain benchmarks found in the literature, c) an ERP integration scheme is proposed that successfully unites the optimization algorithms developed.
