      Temporary Researcher

Project work within Powerlink's Engineering Business Unit (Technology & Standards Group), that later paved the way for a new chapter of asset monitoring. In that role I developed and installed a prototype communication system for remote monitoring of the SF6 gas density in a Siemens 300 kV circuit breaker. This included engineering for sensor and connection technologies, circuitry drafting, systems configuration, on-site installation and data processing to display and calculate trending, possible gas leakage rates and alarms. The project also included a cost analysis for a potential roll-out of this new system to all of Powerlink’s substations. The outcome of my work then got things rolling: Powerlink has now all new SF6 circuit breakers and SF6 current transformers equipped with that system and also, older circuit breakers in Powerlink’s energy grid are gradually upgraded to that technology. Other projects have later built on my work in order to further automate monitoring. Show less

As a Product Portfolio Manager, I help SIEMENS to be successful with their global business of medium-voltage products for power supply networks, infrastructure and industry applications. My responsibilities cover the complete scope of all strategic and operational PLM activities, all along the entire product lifecycle: from bringing new solutions into the markets, helping them to grow and succeed, to finally developing and implementing global phase-out and replacement strategies.I do also manage all the marketing & communication activities for our portfolio, take care of our internal and external tools, infrastructure & content management and am responsible for product sustainability topics. Show less Working 10 years in R&D as an engineer and project manager for low voltage circuit breakers was a great opportunity to create and shape fascinating products and R&D infrastructure. My scope of work included everything you want when it comes to building a new product from scratch: analysing design and feature requirements, reverse-engineering and competitor studies, reviewing patents and their relevance for the project, testing of very first prototypes and final type test breakers. I developed test setup apparatus, implemented the necessary measurement principles and created test reports and comprehensive technical summaries for other involved departments and our management.Within our accredited test laboratory, I set up a QM process for validating the calculation routines of our IT-based measurement software and I also developed a logistics and administration tool for storage, assembly, testing and archiving of single parts and breaker test samples. I gained expert knowledge in MCCB short-circuit interruptions, contact systems and arc extinguishing methods as well as selectivity coordination, trip unit technologies and breaker safety clearances. As a project manager for large and complex test batches, I planned and coordinated ordering, quality release and rework processes of parts and sub-assemblies, as well as the final assembly of the test breakers. I set up test programs, monitored and performed type tests according to IEC and UL standards (along with third party witnesses like VDE and UL) and created extensive test reports for the official product certification.
