      Net Zero Carbon Policy Intern

I worked on a variety of workstreams including: 'Housing and Buildings', 'Natural Waste and Environment' and 'Planning'.I assisted with the development of the Net Zero Carbon (NZC) Programme outcome measures framework, establishing key performance Indicators to assess projects and commitments at the council. Further, I supported the NZC team in developing their annual report, for which I reviewed NZC legislation and policy relating this to the council's ongoing projects. My main role was to produce a Housing Insights Report to establish baselines on housing in the borough to highlight where intervention is most needed. This report supported the council's commitment to combatting fuel poverty by delineating the housing stock, energy consumption habits and property demographics of the area. This experience developed my data analysis skills, I was able to filter large datasets to find relevant data and display this in creative and informative ways. I then presented this report to the wider team at the council to gather expert insight, demonstrating my oral communication skills. My other duties included creating a Housing Associations Report, exploring current trends in the borough and liaising with colleagues from the wider council. I then created a survey looking to establish baselines of the different NZC road plans from the 13 largest housing associations and how the council can assist with these plans. Finally I contributed to a Solar Insight Report, exploring the potential uptake of solar energy in the borough and establishing cost breakdowns for council support in providing solar energy.
