  My research focuses on the interaction between fluids and volcanic ash, with a specific focus on hyper-alkaline fluids and the physical properties of the cemented ash formations that result from this interaction. Utilizing this ash-fluid reaction, I have developed methods to produce C-A-S-H cemented samples using Ca-rich fluids and geopolymer cemented samples using K-rich fluids. I am interested in how the strength and permeability change with exposure to these fluids, replicating reactions that occur naturally in geothermal systems and in concrete. FEM modeling was used to understand the effect on seismicity of having time-dependent strength and permeability. To assess the long-term stability of these interactions I analyzed the chemical and physical properties of 2000 year old Roman marine concrete cores which form from the same Ca-rich fluid-ash reaction (pozzolanic reaction).
