      My dissertation examined the nature of autonomy-- the ability to determine what is important for ourselves and to live accordingly-- as a capacity. In order to defend autonomy against charges of impracticability and incoherence, I argued we should look at the idea of autonomy as a capacity at three different levels.

      I managed and delivered all the programs of the Ethics Centre. In this role I was responsible for budgetary planning and control, community engagement and promotions, as well as delivering ethics and social justice-related workshops to a wide range of audiences.Some of my major achievements were:- Conducting a community needs assessment and developing a plan to address these needs.- Running 2-3 major events per year, as well as many smaller events and workshops.- Co-organizing a massively successful blanket drive in support of the Sudbury Homelessness Network.- Delivering French-language ethics workshops to teens from around Ontario.- Developing partnerships in the local community.       I have been conducting empirical research into the experience of autonomy among people who seek home and community support services in tandem with my philosophical research.This research has been conducted as part of an internship with the Ontario Community Support Association.My accomplishments so far have included:- Conducting ten in-depth interviews with clients of home and community support agencies in Southern and Southwestern Ontario regions- Developing an 18-question survey based on these interviews, and refined through extensive stakeholder consultation- Coordinating the collection of 150 responses to the survey from home and community support clients throughout Ontario- Presenting preliminary findings at the annual OCSA conference- Analysing the survey responses for use in policy recommendations and the final reportMy experience working with the team at OCSA and with the leadership, staff, and clients of agencies across the province has been exceptionally productive. Final report of my findings should be released in the spring of 2018. Show less
