      Excellence Intern

Through my internship with AAN, I worked with a local non-profit organization to assist with applying to the Standards of Excellence application. Every week I would set up interviews with various staff and board members of the organization, find required attachments, and write/edit narratives for each benchmark.

    • East Tennessee State University

      Aug 2016 - May 2018

As a graduate research assistant, I was engaged in multiple projects which allowed me to take on multiple roles. I evaluated the Appalachian Farmacy Fruit & Vegetable Rx Program where I developed and piloted tools to determine program outcomes and give recommendations to stakeholders for the future. I was also involved developing a research agenda to prevent and control CVD in Central Appalachia. This involved interviewing professionals in the region to identify priorities around cardiovascular disease. The local YMCA partnered with my primary investigator to host a pilot Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) for employees to determine best recruitment & retention practices. I planned and conducted focus groups to gauge barriers and motivators to DPPs and presented to the YMCA VP of Healthy Living. Not only did I participate in research, but I also co-taught a peer education course which was a part of a larger campus-wide initiative, managed the campus' farmers market, and represented students from my department on the MPH curriculum revision committee alongside other students, staff, and professors.
