Led the Army's largest Research & Development (R&D) flight activity averaging 30 concurrent projects totaling $25M and 750 flight hours annually. Managed multi-disciplinary workforce of 40+ military, government, and contract engineers, experimental test pilots, and technicians. Responsible for the planning, cost, schedule, execution, and reporting of technology development, systems integration, and flight tests/demonstrations supporting Army modernization priorities and enduring readiness.- Planned and executed experimental flight tests of emerging aviation technologies on 17 highly modified rotary-wing and fixed-wing research aircraft; responsible for risk mitigation and flight safety for all flight tests.- Reviewed and approved all test plans, technical reports, and test result out-briefs for ground and flight test projects.- Developed and implemented flight test tracking and forecasting products to improve predictability, prioritization, and visibility of test efforts.- Continued to serve as an experimental test pilot (XP) across multiple projects in the UH 60A/L/M/V, including Launched Effects, Mission Adaptive Autonomy, and Boundary Layer Research. Show less Lead, NexGen Unmanned Aircraft System Technology DemonstratorLead for a science and technology program budgeted at $118M over seven years to identify, mature, and demonstrate transformational unmanned air vehicle technologies. Developed and managed the cost, schedule, performance, and technical objectives to inform and enable a future acquisition program in support of future vertical lift. Interfaced with Department of Defense agencies, industry, and academia to communicate program objectives and status, monitor related technical efforts, and identifyopportunities for collaboration. Communicated technology maturation, feasibility of application, and further development potential of air vehicle technologies to Army leadership. - Formulated and executed a $1.9M Concept Study with five industry teams to address key topicsrelated to vehicle design, autonomy, adverse weather, and teaming. Results were used to refine UAS requirements and supported the development/issuance of the $5M Conceptual Design and Technology Assessment BAA Call and draft System Performance Specification.- Led the Army's enterprise-level Future UAS integrated product team to collaborate and synchronize requirements and material development efforts.- Initiated Model Based Systems Engineering effort to establish a technical baseline from available and emergent requirements sources using a rigorous systems engineering approach that aligned with OSD Digital Engineering Strategy and PEO Aviation digital engineering initiatives.- Performed duties as Experimental Test Pilot in multiple rotorcraft. Show less Organized, coordinated, led, and participated as an evaluation pilot in the 2016 DVE-M Yuma Flight Trials in September 2016. - Primary flight test maneuvers comprised approach-to-landing, approach-to-hover, precision hover, and take-off maneuvers in full/heavy brownout. During 14 flights, 76 successful brownout landings and 69 successful extended (30 sec) brownout hovers were completed. Hover maneuvers totaled more than 34 cumulative minutes of brownout at approximately 30 ft AGL, with maneuvering. Obstacles were located within 100 ft of the rotor disk (forward and aft of the aircraft) during hover and landing maneuvers.- Coordinated and co-authored the 2016 DVE-M Yuma Flight Trials Final Test Report, a comprehensive 135 page report providing results, conclusions, and recommendations on advanced flight controland sensor-driven-guidance, advanced cueing, and multi-spectral sensors.- Received Vertical Flight Society Award for the Best Session Paper (contributing author) of the Crew Station Session based on the 2016 DVE-M Yuma Flight Trial results.
