  I joined ABB after graduation. My first job was related to Paper Machine Electrical Drive systems start-up and commissioning globally. Job sites were in Finland, Sweden, Germany, Canada and Japan.I was ABB team leader in UPM Jämsänkoski PM6 project and Tohoku Paper PM4 project in Japan. I was responsible on ABB system baby-sitting in Tohoku Paper in Akita city, Japan 1992-1993 more than six months.

  I was responsible of ABB Drives System technical & sales support in Japan. I studied Japanese during to my stay there. Most of customer could not communicate in English. Learned a lot of Japanese and Asian culture. Chopsticks were not a problem after living three weeks in Japan.

  Sales management. The Pulp & Paper sales team was very experienced with senior experts. I was able to avoid a typical rookie time period in the team due to extended experience of travelling globally with international customer relations including very good knowledge about customers processes and ABB technology. I took over independent Sales manager position within a few months. Job included sales configurations and strategies, full cost models, maintenance of Excel based full cost model of the business unit, customer negotiations and contracts. Customers were mainly outside Finland, including most of European countries, China and South-Korea. I visited China more than 10 times per year during the busiest years. Show less
