      Engineering Assistant

I worked under two licensed professional engineers to support plan checking, update regulations and guidelines, and develop AutoCAD drawings. My tasks included:• Performing structural calculations and drafting designs in AutoCAD to develop a set of City Standard Plans for a patio cover, chimney, and swimming pool• Assisting in writing and editing the 2014 Glendale Building Code• Conducting preliminary plan checks on small house additions• Supporting field inspection trips and permit reviewDuring this period, I worked intermittently during summers (typically June - August) while completing my undergraduate degree. Aug 2015 - Jun 2017
      Graduate Research Assistant

I was part of a National Science Foundation Sustainability Research Network that consisted of a multidisciplinary group of researchers from CU Boulder, Colorado State University, and Colorado School of Mines. Our goal was to study the social, environmental, and economic impacts of unconventional oil and gas development and work towards integrating this evidence into the policymaking process. I developed a decision support framework to examine the impact of various setback distance regulations and visualize them to help inform policymakers. The framework is composed of the US EPA AERMOD atmospheric dispersion model, and Borg, a multi-objective evolution algorithm. AERMOD calculates air quality impacts and sends the results to Borg through a series of python scripts I wrote. This loop continues until Borg finds the optimal series of tradeoffs between air quality, human health impacts, and number of allowable wells. I presented this research at the 2015 and 2016 American Geophysical Union Union Fall Meeting. Show less

      Environmental Engineer / Project Manager

I worked as a technical expert and project manager on a variety of development aid projects in Asia and Southeast Asia. I also assisted with program development writing expressions of interest and proposals for World Bank and Asian Development Bank projects. As a technical expert, I calculated flood risk for a variety of climate scenarios, developed maps using GIS, delivered GIS training workshops, contributed to the development of web-based decision support systems, developed coastal food and erosion risk reduction measures and strategies, and performed an environmental impact assessment of hydropower dams on terrestrial biodiversity. As project manager, I oversaw implementation and acted as the main point of contact with the client, partners, and stakeholders. This involved monitoring project progress, team performance, and the quality of deliverables and outputs. I was also responsible for project financial management, contractual arrangements, and supporting recruitment. I worked closely with government partners and other stakeholders, led and organized team meetings, organized and delivered workshops, and oversaw report writing.Projects I managed or contributed to include: • Implementing Innovative Approaches for Improved Water Governance (Asian Development Bank)• Development of Coastal Multi-hazard Mapping, Vulnerability and Risk Assessments And Investment Framework for Coastal Interventions in Selected Coastal Communities in Vietnam (World Bank)• Enhanced Use of Disaster Risk Information for Decision Making in Southeast Asia – Myanmar (ADB)• Strategic Environmental Assessment of the Hydropower Sector in Myanmar (WB)• Mainstreaming Climate Resilience Into Development Planning – Package 1 (ADB)• Climate and Natural Disasters Resilience Project in Bac Kan Province (French Development Agency) Show less

      Jan 2021 - Nov 2024
      State Water Management Engineer

I held the position of Oregon State Water Management Engineer. In this role, I served as the state technical lead for irrigation projects and any other projects involving pressurized pipe flow.I worked primarily on microirrigation and sprinkler system designs. This typically involved working with landowners to identify needs and solutions that could be addressed through NRCS technical and financial assistance programs, and then designing the new irrigation system, including the pipeline and pump as necessary. The core focus of this work was natural resource conservation, whether that be increasing water efficiency, reducing energy usage, or improving soil health.I also reviewed large-scale water management projects funded through the small watershed program PL-566. These projects typically involved converting canals to pipelines for irrigation districts. This work consisted of coordinating with private consultants, the project owner, and other relevant government entities to ensure the goals and requirements of the PL-566 program were met.Internally, I provided engineering leadership and guidance to staff throughout the state to ensure projects were planned, designed and certified in accordance with NRCS practice standards and specifications. I wrote and published bulletins and technical notes on various topics ranging from water rights to water quality testing. I was also responsible for updating engineering tools.I assisted with other engineering designs as needed, including livestock watering systems, well development, and tide gates. Show less
