      Teacher Assistant

I volunteered at my dance school, helping the teacher with the younger classes. This is a way for me to develop my communication skills with the children and often their parents during the fast turnarounds in-between classes. I have also been given the responsibility to handle ticket sales for our performances

      Observing

In my second semester of university, I took on a placement once a week in a secondary school music department. I would observe lessons, assist with compositions and take out small groups of my own to teach guitar, ukulele and singing to year 7s and year 10s before they would perform in a 'Class Band.' I received another DBS certificate from this and developed a variety of skills related to teaching including leadership, problem-solving (for example I do not play the guitar) and communication.

      Assistant Music Director

In my second semester of university, I took on the role of Assistant Music Director in the Music Theatre (MT) Society's production of Carrie the musical. This role required me to lead vocal warm ups, to have an understanding of the voice as an instrument, to assist in the teaching of songs and singing rehearsals, to set up and unpack the band and to play Keys 2 in the show. This role was one of the greatest challenges I took on in my first year at Leeds as I was out of my comfort zone and surrounded by people I didn't know. I developed a wide range of skills, from leadership to team work, and learnt from the other members of the production team. The show got great reviews and was a huge success for the society, and a great source of pride and accomplishment for me. Show less

      Team Leader

Each summer, I work as a Team Leader for the NCS programme. This involves working with young people aged 15-17 on both a week long outward-bound residential and a week of volunteering and 'social action.' I therefore have been trained in safeguarding and first aid, as well as gained experience leading a group, managing difficult behaviour and working as a team with the other staff. I have experience writing risk assessments and filling out incident forms. As a team leader I have to be a relatable but authoritative leader for my team, leading a variety of activities from ice-breaker games to food budgeting workshops to equip my young people with skills for their CV's and later in life. I find this job incredibly rewarding as I love working with young people and seeing them develop over the two weeks from shy and embarrassed to confident and outgoing. Show less

      Sponsorship and Fundraising Officer

In the academic year 2022/23 I will be taking on the role of Sponsorship and Fundraising officer for two societies; Music Theatre Society and the Music Society. This will involve liaising with sponsors and charities, organising fundraiser events and raising money for the society itself. I was elected for both of these roles after putting forward my experience.
